When it comes to posing for portraits, most of my clients could use some guidance. That's why I decided to create this posing guide for your next portrait session. Practicing a few poses in the mirror before your shoot will give you added confidence, help you understand how to hold your body, and teach you to be photogenic.
Not to worry, as your professional Myrtle Beach photographer, I will guide you through different poses during your shoot, making sure you look your best. However, I strive to find the happy medium between directing you and capturing your natural spirit, resulting in authentic-looking portraits that tell a story and enhance your best features. If you've booked an upcoming portrait session for yourself, an engagement session with your partner, or a session with the whole family, keep reading! There are many different poses you can try. Let's begin.
Portrait Session Poses
1. Leaning back on a solid foundation is a versatile pose that works well for all genders and ages.
Having support behind you will enable your body to relax, making you look calm and collected.
2. Leaning forward is a pose that is common in portrait photography.
It makes the face of the subject the focal point of the shot.
3. Not sure what to do with your arms? Try putting them up.
This pose has a slimming effect on the body and frames the face.
4. Another way to pose your arms is to cross them gently over your waist.
5. For a fun and flirty portrait, look over your shoulder.
6. Turn your body to a 45-degree angle and squat down to convey cool vibes.
7. Stand with your body at a slight 45-degree angle with one hand on your hip and one hand on the side of your neck while slightly tilting your head.
Engagement Session Poses
1. An embrace from behind looks great in engagement portraits, as seen in the beautiful shot below.

3. Leaning on each other captures the closeness you share with your partner.
4. Face each other and touch your foreheads together.
Try this pose with the eyes open or closed, as seen in the portraits below.
5. Stand facing each other. One person looks at the camera while the other kisses the side of their partner's face.
6. Stand facing each other and kiss the lips.
One person wraps their arms around the other's waist while the other wraps their arms around their partner's shoulders.
7. Lift your partner in the air.
